"A Patriot's Ball"
Cancelled Due to COVID-19 Outbreak

The Norfolk Towne Assembly views the health and safety of our members and friends as our top priority.  As the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in Virginia grows, we are watching the guidance released by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), state and local health departments, and the Country Dance & Song Society.

On Sunday, March 15 the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) issued new guidance for event organizers that included the following:

"Large events and mass gatherings can contribute to the spread of COVID-19 in the United States via travelers who attend these events and introduce the virus to new communities.  Examples of large events and mass gatherings include conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies.  These events can be planned not only by organizations and communities but also by individuals.

Therefore, CDC, in accordance with its guidance for large events and mass gatherings, recommends that for the next 8 weeks, organizers (whether groups or individuals) cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States.

Events of any size should only be continued if they can be carried out with adherence to guidelines for protecting vulnerable populations, hand hygiene, and social distancing.  When feasible, organizers could modify events to be virtual."

Since The Norfolk Towne Assembly’s “A Patriot’s Ball” falls within the 8-week period referenced by the CDC we have made the difficult decision to cancel it for this year.  Over the next few weeks, all those who bought tickets to the Ball will receive refund checks in the mail from The Norfolk Towne Assembly.  Please be patient as we are working diligently to make this process as rapid and streamlined as we can.

We value our members and friends and will always take whatever actions we can to protect your health and safety.  We hope next year you will set aside the first Saturday in May and join us for “A Patriot’s Ball”.
